A first-generation American, Ozzie Fumo has lived in Las Vegas for over 40 years. He is a graduate of Bishop Gorman High School, the University of San Diego, and holds a law degree from Whittier Law School.
“My dad was a blue collar guy with a white collar job. He was the Director of Food and Beverage Purchasing at the Las Vegas Hilton when it was the largest hotel in the world. But his office was on the docks, he worked hand-in-hand with those who did the heavy lifting and when the Teamsters struck, he was someone who refused to cross the picket line.”
A defense attorney, Ozzie Fumo is a partner at Pitaro & Fumo, a small business well-known in the Las Vegas community for their professionalism and aggressive litigators. Ozzie specializes in criminal defense for over 20 years, and has been assigned high profile cases and clients.
“Early on I learned about bullies, how sometimes they’re people, sometimes they’re corporations, and sometimes they’re even the government. That’s why I do the work I do, because I believe everyone deserves a defense and everyone should be treated fairly under the law.”
Ozzie often serves as a legal analyst for local television stations, as a legal expert in the Las Vegas Review Journal, and is one of the few select members of the community to sit as a Judge on Metro’s Police Use of Force Board.
As a lawyer, Ozzie Fumo maintains the highest rating (“AV Distinguished”) by an attorney rating service for a criminal defense attorney. He is admitted to all levels of the State Court in the Eighth Judicial District, practices in the United States Federal Court District of Nevada, and has argued successfully in the Ninth Circuit court of Appeals.
“I get my work-ethic from my parents, but I definitely get my love of Las Vegas from my family, my kids and grandkids.”
Today, Ozzie is married to Ellen Fumo, they have five children, four girls and one boy. Thanks to his many years in the state, Ozzie knows the challenges working families face firsthand and will go to Carson City with a long-term vision for Nevada.
Ozzie and his family have lived in the district since 1999.
“I have over two decades of experience fighting on the behalf of everyday Nevadans. I’m not a politician, but I definitely have the ability to negotiate the laws, I’ve been doing so for 20 years every day and that ability to fight on behalf of our community is what I’d like to bring to Carson City.”
